WINTER SPRINGS, FLA.- In their best performance of the season thus far, the Memphis Women's Golf team finished 2nd , missing first place by just one stroke at the Spalding/Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational hosted by Rollins College.
The Lady Tigers shot a 608 (32-over) which was bettered by Penn State by a mere one stroke as the Nittany Lions shot a 607 (31-over) as a team. The Lady Tigers placed seoond in a field of 13 teams and it was their highest finish since winning the Memphis Collegiate Invitational in Sept. 2002.
Marianne Ruud, who lead the event after round one, fell to ninth place with a second round score of 78 (6-over). He scores were still good enough for a top ten finish as she placed ninth. Teammate Jennifer Jaszek bounced back from a 6-over par first round and shot an even-par 72 second round and finished fourth in the in the tournament, the highest of any Lady Tiger. Danielle Reilly shot a 154 (10-over), finishing 14th and Abby More shot a 154 (11-over) finishing 16th giving Memphis four players in the top 20. Katie Brophy of Notre Dame won the tournament with a 147 (3-over) final score.
